Rachel lives a busy life out in New York City. She’s successful as the CEO of p.volve and swamped - even in the time of the pandemic when her business was continuing to expand. However: her mom lives back home here in Franklin, Michigan and she was turning 60 this year - and that’s a big milestone. Rachel and the rest of the family that live out of state (who couldn’t be home to celebrate with her due to the pandemic) wanted to be able to surprise Nancy with a house full of balloons when she woke up on her birthday.

When Rachel’s assistant reached out to me for this big 8ftx12ft balloon wall wall: we were so excited! The catch was: we had to have the wall installed before she woke up at 9am, we couldn’t get into the home until 7:30am, and she was going to be sleeping in a room about 10 feet away from where the wall was getting installed. In addition to this - we also had 3 of our big balloon bouquets to assemble on site as well. YIKES! To say we were a little nervous was an understatement.

Jess, Thomas, and I spent the evening prior pre-building the organic balloon wall at the Robot-Home-Base so that we know how it will go together on site (so that we can assemble it quickly the next morning!) and then took it apart in 3 sections, bagged it up, and went to bed.

After a whopping 3 hours of sleep (yes we WERE zombies all of that day) and getting about an inch and a half of unexpected snow the night before, we woke up, quickly packed the truck, and drudged our way through the icy roads to Franklin.

We assembled the balloon wall in the garage, and erected it in the living room. Doesn’t that shot look amazing with the backlit? She also got 3 of those balloon bouquets throughout the house as well (I only snapped a photo of one of them since the lights were off in most of the house - I asked her husband if I could turn on the lights in one of the rooms so I could snap this one photo.)

I am happy to report that we not only finished our installation in less than 60 minutes, but we also didn’t wake up Nancy! (I think that’s the most impressive part of all of this)

The family was impressed and loved it. I was so proud of our team for doing this so quietly. We barely even spoke to each other throughout the installation - it was as if we communicated with our eyes and our minds. Like a well oiled… ROBOT MACHINE!
